Ways Cosmetologists Can Connect with Their Clients. Whether you are working for a beauty salon or running your own beauty salon or are still studying and working at a cosmetology school, knowing how to form a connection with your clients is essential to your success.
Without clients, there is no one you can offer your salon services too. By successfully connecting with your clients, you are establishing a long-term relationship with them. Here are a few ways that you can connect with clients:
Make Clients Feel Comfortable
You need to make your clients feel comfortable when they visit you. Make small talk with them and ask them if they need anything like tea, coffee, water, or juice. If they are wearing a coat, ask them if they want to take it off.
Ask them what type of hairstyle or hair color they want, for instance. If they do not know, help them decide by showing them the various hairstyles and hair colors they can choose from the list. Another thing that will make your client feel at complete ease is if you keep your station clean.
Note Down Things that Are Important to Your Clients
You need to listen to your clients attentively. If they talk about their kids or pets, make a mental note of it. If they feel uneasy talking about a particular topic, note it down, so you never bring it up during again.
Before they leave, say something to them that will tell them that you were listening to them. For instance, if they told you they came to your beauty salon for a haircut because they are about to go on vacation, ask them to have a good time. When they come in next time to see you, ask them how their vacation went.
Honesty is Really the Best Policy
You need to be completely honest with them. If the hair color or hairstyle they chose will not suit them, advise them against it, and recommend another hairstyle or hair color. Never lie to them, though. They will appreciate your honest advice. They may even ask you what you think will suit them. This is the chance to show them your expertise on the subject.
Always Follow Up
Ask your clients how their last hair color or haircut was, what they like about it the most, and how their hair color looked after several weeks. By asking these questions, you are showing your clients that you are interested in them and value their feedback about your salon services.
You also should note down the colors they like and do not like. Before they leave, ask them if you can schedule another visit to the beauty salon for them, for example.
Know When to Change the Topic
Not all clients are talkative. Some take time to open up, and some prefer to always stay quiet or talk about different subjects. If you are talking about a subject that the client is not interested in talking further, change the topic. If they do not like to talk at all, remain quiet. You should tell them what you are doing with their hair, skin, makeup, and nails.
